Two Hundred Denarii in Jesus Period is equivalent to 53,166 Rupees in Jesus Christ Period.
Explanation.
In the Gospel of Matthew 18: 21-35 we hear a parable of
Jesus about forgiveness. This parable came since Peter asked Jesus:
"Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many
as seven times?” Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven
times.” Afterwards he told them a parable of a king and his unforgiving
servant. Here one servant is a debtor who owes the king a huge amount,
literally in Greek, “a myriad of talents.” A talent is the largest monetary
unit. It is worth six thousand denarii. A denarii is equivalent to a day’s
wages, so one talent alone is already “a huge amount,” So this servant owes a
great amount still the king forgives him, later this same servant demands that
one of his fellow servants pay back a debt that is as a much smaller amount. It
is just one hundred denarii – about a hundred days’ wages which is 600,000
times shorter than the first servant’s debt.
Denarii is a roman coin that gave to their servants. The value of each
denarii is calculated according to the silver contained in a denarius. The silver
contained in one denarii is equivalent to 265.83 rupees. So the money owed
by the second servant is 265,583 Rupees. But having a huge sum of money owed to
his king, the first servant did not show mercy to the first servant. Therefore, the king
was angry with the first servant and put him in prison. The importance of forgiveness
is shown in this parable.
